Yiqiao HU Ph.D.Professor E-mail: hu_yiqiao@yahoo.com.cn Research Interests Our group 's unique research interest is to the development of drug delivery-based pharmaceuticals. We believe that novel drug delivery technology could bring the excellent solutions for many severe disease medications, improve existing medicines and create a new universe of drug therapies. Our group is the provider of drug delivery solutions with the broadest array of technology platforms, including cancer cell targeting carrier system (transferrin),oral, transdermal, topical and nanospher technologies. Our group technology has been incorporated in 10 commercialized products marketed in China. More than 5 patents are active or pending. Our group provides value to our partners in all phases of product development, from initial concept, through manufacturing and commercialization. Our process pushes the boundaries of drug delivery, and yields highly attractive options for partner companies to commercialize novel therapies. Current Projects
An important aspect for cancer chemotherapy is to let drugs select the cancer cells or target the cancer cells. Since cancer cells uptake relatively large amount of iron than normal cells, the receptors of transferrin on the cancer cell surface are over-expressive. We conjugated transferrins to antineoplastic compounds so as to let the compounds select cancer cell. This would enhance the toxicity and selectivity of the compounds towards cancer cells. The first compound we chosen is tirapazamine. The results of our experiment showed that the conjugates of transferrin and tirapazamine could effectively increase the toxicity on cancer cells and decrease the toxicity on normal cells. The patent of the conjugate of transferrin and tirapazamine are waiting for authorization.
The P-glycoprotein is a major obstacle in the chemotherapeutic treatment of many human cancers. A novel P-glycoprotein inhibitor, 1416, has been found by our lab. The research demonstrated that 1416 could increase the effect of anticancer compounds such as doxorubicin, vinblastine and so no. Some of our products in the market or clinical trial
